So, how are capped composite deck boards made?  The wood and polyethylene polymers are carefully blended to create a solid, dense core material. Then, a separate, stabilized polymeric cap is fused around the wood-plastic composite core. The core material is then co-extruded with a non-organic surface product that has a unique blend of premium, non-reactive color pigments, UV inhibitors, anti-oxidants, and mold inhibitors. These features combine to provide capped composite decking with superior resistance to sun, stains, mold, and bacteria, as well as ensure lasting durability and outstanding color. Adding color pigments at precise intervals during the manufacturing process results in distinct multi-tonal streaking. Some streaking is dramatic, much like exotic hardwoods, while other boards have more subtle streaking. Either way, the result are beautiful, and one of the key elements that sets composite decking apart from other decking.

Capped composite decking has come a long way from earlier, uncapped options :

Today we have capped composites, which feature a “cover” that provides added protection against the elements and everyday living. This capping contains UV inhibitors and provides an additional element of strength and resilience.
Of course, when we say cap or “cover” we don’t mean something that is added after the composite decking is made. In the case of capped composite decking, the cap is bonded to the core during the manufacturing process.

Stain Resistance:

The protective shell technology of the capped composite deck boards provide them with a non-porous blanket which offers expert resistance to staining. The capped material ensures that stains and residue sit on the surface of the boards, reducing the risk of long-lasting damage to the look and feel of the material.

The traditional composite products do not come with the luxury of a protective capping and in turn, are more susceptible to staining. That being said, we believe applying a bit of cleaning and care to the decking will ensure spot stains can be dealt with without huge amounts of effort.

For all issues involving staining, we recommend that customers act quickly and treat the effected area as quickly soon as possible.

Unlike their alternatives, the Deluxe and Advanced high end composite decking boards (the capped decking products) provide a level contrast in colour and a striking dual-tone appearance, which provides a level of variation between boards.

Fade Resistance:

While Nanyang’s boards are engineered to weather better than timber, our decking board’s resistance to UV rays differs between ranges. The protective sleeve of capped decking boards offers resistance to fading that isn’t matched by the traditional (uncapped) composite solutions. Our traditional boards will undergo a weathering phase, where they will lighten-up with exposure to UV rays.

Lifespan:

While the weather resistance of our capped decking boards is superior to that of our traditional boards, we make the commitment to provide a 25-year residential warranty across all of our ranges. Engineered to last – all decking products outperform and outlast timber alternatives, while guaranteeing low maintenance requirements.
